Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal, known for its cheap business class fares, has deals right now from the U.S. to Europe starting at just $82 one way and $229 round trip. And that’s not just East Coast to Europe, but even from San Francisco as well.
And while most people in the U.S. cannot travel to most destinations in Europe now, at least without quarantining on arrival (U.K.), this fare is available through next summer and at these prices it may be worth taking a flyer.
God Save the Points highlights several of these fares,
San Francisco to London is fare basis OUSDSI0E, a $1 base fare. A stopover is even permitted in Lisbon for up to 120 hours without increasing the fare.
- There’s a $300 change fee, making this effecively non-changeable
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday travel between December 18 and January 6 is $70 higher
- Monday – Thursday travel December 18 through January 6 is $50 higher
Turkish, Air Canada, and Asiana will give 10% of flown miles and Lufthansa will give you 25% if crediting to them. Most Star Alliance programs won’t award miles on this fare.
At these prices Europe is about to see some American “spirit”.
We flew TAP in business (award tix) several years ago. We flew to Lisbon, spent a day and a night, then continued on to Paris. With a 120 hour layover, you can see a lot of the country.

That fare does not exist (San Francisco to London). Yes it shows in search results, but when you click through to book, it jumps.
New York to Paris (via Porto) $1 base fare is real though.
Even if the ‘fare’ is not refundable, would I still be entitled to a refund of the taxes if I do decide I can’t make this trip?
I realize that might be a case of ‘good luck with that’ on the refund, but wouldn’t it be the case?
I booked 3 RT fares SFO to Barcelona in economy for next July. $790 Total fare.
But you can still get a refund in form of a voucher, correct? This may be important if EU still isn’t available to USA come the time of your trip.

Checked with Google flights and business one way for next May is showing over 7K. How do I get the cheap fare you are talking about.
About a month ago I booked BOS-LIS, OPO-LIS-BOS for a 9 day trip next July. It was was $1,150 for a Business Class ticket and was wide open for 4+ seats for basically any day of travel.
That price is now gone.
I am looking at flights from EWR to LIS 4 day stop over, then on to Rome, then return for $240 economy.
Trouble is booking through Citi or WF to use rewards, they want to jump the same exact Itinerary to $309. Expedia has it at $259. So not sure why the reward sites are so much more.
